Don’t expect this much. Not unless you’re getting a full on new turbo. 7 0+ hp to the wheels is absurd unless VW for some reason was dropping heavily detuned R motors into GTIs for shits and giggles. Most I;ve heard of is 25-40hp and similar torque. If anything, the torque boost I believe. It’s easy enough to get a stock turbo to hold boost for longer and build it a bit faster to give a gain on mid to high end torque. Ford’s EcoBeast motors gain 50 ft/lbs but only 15-20 hp with a tune. I don’t see how VW could leave 70hp on the table of their 210hp motor.

Also, I have ye t to hear of a tune that adds 30%+ to the stock clutch and the stock clutch willingly accepts it. If that “tune” or kit or whatever doesn’t also recommend a clutch upgrade, I’d be wary. Either of a) it not providing the power it says it does (most stage 1 tunes are designed arou nd stock clutch) or 2) it blowing out your clutch after 5-10k miles.

I'll happily take more power and a new clutch over less power and probably a new clutch anyway.

WTF is that dyno graph that is only between 3000 (I believe that the peak torque is before 3000rpm on this engine) and 5500rpm and the stock tune.

Dr opping power before 5500rpm seems wrong but it actually might be normal.

My A3 8L with a 1.8T has gone from 150hp to a supposed (according to many others that did similar mods and did dyno tests) ~195hp with a tune and an exhaust (including a 200cpi cat), the torque went from 210nm to something around 300, while I haven’t tested those on a dyno, it’s definitely not the same car and my clutch which might still be original (21 years and 230000km) is not slipping at all and I had the mods for 3 or 4 years.

Some stock parts are known to be unable to handle the extra load, it depends on the cars and engine, on mine it's rather the fuel pump, intercooler and turbo the are close to their full capacity.

Also: the numbers say stock HP is 207, but looking at the graph the trace peaks near 225 for stock. Are they doing doing something shifty like showing the stock HP corrected, and the mod HP raw?

Its a unitronic tune. About as safe as an OTS tune gets. Currently 2k miles no slippage but I do plan on replacing the clutch on my way to stage 2

Well I have the 228hp/268tq motor. From factory they are underrated like all the Germans do. Those crank numbers are close to what most put down at the wheels. Trust me the difference in power is tremendous. I walked away from a new 5.7 Charger.

Exactly. A tune on a VW does wonders. Ran a 270whp Genesis 2.0 Coupe and he said I have to be pushing close to the same or more because I was starting to pull away from him.

Probably for the best that you get it done sooner rather than later. 2k miles is fine and dandy for an initial check, but 15k or so is when the piper tends to come collect his due, at least in the ST community. My friend has a Civic Si with some mods and his case was les than 5k before he had to get the clutch replaced along with a few hoses and other ancilary upgrades.

I’m happy you like it, but also be warned that the VW nature of reliability is “Sudden, unexpected failure when you least suspect it”.

You say you have 228hp that is underrated, but your own charts in this post claim a wheel horsepower of 208. So which is it? WHat does the “228" tune gain when given the same upgrades?

HAving had previous tuned cars, the butt dyno says its a big gain, but the numbers tell a different story than reality. The lack of lag/more immediate physical response to the torque boost tends to be why the tune feels so “strong”. Not saying you didn’t make a major gain or have a genuine bump up in speed tiers, but make sure you’re mindful about your expectations with what you did with just a fueling and boost map.
